Vermont summer!

Yes, indeed, summer is here and it is glorious. Just finished one of our annual summer traditions, a week-long immersive music workshop for high schoolers run by The Grift and friends. We call it Rock-It Science, and it. Was. Epic. Never ceases to amaze us how creative and talented these kids are…  The future of music is bright!

We are also grateful for the opportunity to make music for so many folks’ on their Special Day this summer – we have met so many lovely and amazing people already.  Thank you for choosing The Grift to kick your party up to the next level, it truly is one of our favorite things.

Grift CD - Live at Mad River Glen

Lots of good things in Grift-land, folks: the new CD, “Live at Mad River Glen,” is hot of the press! It sounds and looks amazing, and we are so excited to share it with you. (You can check out a track on the band page of the site.) We will celebrate the release of this energetic, rock/jam-tastic live album on Saturday February 20, 2016 at Mad River Glen.  Music starts at 5pm, be there or be square.

and check this out, this is fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sN93K-Oib0&feature=em-upload_owner#action=share

and we have new merch! (CDs, obviously) but new t-shirts and a limited run of full-zip hoodies.  They will be available for sale at live shows for now, and eventually through a web store on this site. Though… they will sell out quickly, so come see the band live, for goodness sake.

My Post-Traumatic Cruise Ship Cabaret!

Vivi and The Boroshenko Brothers

Vivi and The Boroshenko Brothers

Vivi Donovan and The Fleeing Boroshenko Brothers are back!  That’s right, folks, the Grift boys return to their stage acting careers in an updated, revised, still-funny-as-hell version of My Post-Traumatic Cruise Ship Cabaret! Starring the mesmerizing Vanessa Dunleavy as Vivi Donovan with The Grift as her Belarusian backing band.  Book and lyrics by the immensely talented Dana Yeaton, music by Clint, Dana and Peter.  We were particularly blessed this time around to have the amazing Guy Stroman from NYC (co-creator, Forever Plaid) directing the show – we are spending the week sequestered in tiny Rochester, VT getting everything dialed in, and you are in for a treat! The show is magnificent, quite frankly.  (are we biased? maybe.  but still.) Need more encouragement?  Jeronimus Boroshenko (played by Jeff) has lines this time!  Yup, it’s true.

Rochester Auditorium (at The Rochester School) Route 100, Rochester VT

Friday and Saturday Jan. 8 and 9 at 7:30 pm and Sunday Jan. 10 at 2pm

The Grift on VPR – video is up!

We are quite excited to announce that our video from Vermont Public Radio’s “Live From the Fort” series is up for your viewing and listening pleasure!  We’re super psyched with how it turned out, many thanks to everyone involved for making it such a fun and productive experience.  Nice work, VPR (and thank you to The Skinny Pancake – way to support independent music.)

check it out here: http://www.vpr.net/apps/live-from-the-fort/

Oh, and then there was that time that Jeff, Clint and Peter went on tour in Germany with Brian Chartrand… amazingly amazing!  Great rooms, great crowds – and we were always treated like royalty everywhere we went.  Very civilized, indeed!  Germany is quite a warm and receptive place to play original music…

Another rockin’ Halloween at the LoFoSmoHo is in the books!  Always such a blast.  Thanks to everyone who came and danced the night away for their great energy and awesome costumes.  Here’s a quick video clip from the stage to give a feel for the scene (watch Jeff multi-tasking!)

And now – The Grift departs for Europe, playing a nice run of shows backing up Brian Chartrand from The Sweet Remains.  Check out the tour schedule on tSR website, and follow along!

  • Brian’s tour blog,  der ketchup koenig, updated frequently and always  with verve and hilarity.  a great behind-the-scenes look at the daily life of  touring musicians…
  • Instagram @vtpd, @vallonetone, @brianchartrand. street art! amazing tour meals! green room shenanigans! picturesque Euro-scenes! moments of zen!
  • facebook, of course –  The Grift and The Sweet Remains

And stay tuned for the finished product of The Grift’s very fun recording session for the VPR “Live From the Fort” video series, probably available to watch around Thanksgiving.

September’s fresh start

Please note: The DoJo gig on Friday, Sept. 11 is a private event, not open to the public as previously indicated.  Apologies for the confusion.

September always brings that touch of nostalgia… summer ending, the smell and feel of a cool New England night, a re-focusing of energy.  Something about nobody being on the beach, that empty lake, empty streets, the sun goes down alone… This could be a great song! oh, wait.  Don Henley already wrote it.

And stay tuned for a possible Middlebury show coming up in October – details to be announced soon…

And if you haven’t heard the band yet with keyboardist Andrew Moroz, you’re missing out!  here’s the keyboardist-eye view, setting up at a recent gig in Bahn-stable, Mass.  (And thanks to our friend Peter for bringing us down to Howard Boats again, always a blast!)

Thank you, Jazzfest! DoJo gigs coming in hot!

Thanks to everyone involved with the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival, which was once again an amazing ten (?) days of music.  We were excited to be part of it in our Radio Bean debut! Jazzfest never disappoints for hearing great new music and bringing musicians together in new formations for that magical, cooperative musical alchemy.

(Thanks, Ben Bloom for the photo, and thanks to Matt Schrag and Jake Whitesell for sitting in!)
