New Jam! Quarantine Creativity…

Very exciting news: there’s a hot new jam, and you can hear it now (and see the AMAZING music video)! The Grift teamed up with our good friends at Lawson’s Finest Liquids to kick off LFL’s new virtual music series. In addition to brewing amazing beer, Sean and Karen Lawson are also passionate music fans who reached out to us asking how they could help local musicians affected by The COVID-19 Pandemic. Thank you, Lawsons!

It was super fun to collaborate remotely with the other Grift lads, and this song is a testament to the positivity, fun and creativity that are still abundant these days, against all odds. Yes, most of what’s going on in this crazy new normal is a colossal bummer for fans and musicians both. As you are likely aware, live music is in a bit of a holding pattern right now.

The bad news: All Grift shows in the near future (currently looking into July?) are postponed, and no one is sure how long that will extend.

The good news: We are VERY MUCH looking forward to returning to a stage near you to share in the joy and energy of live music! It is going to be a triumphant return.

So go crank up the new jam and sip some sunshine! We’ll see you soon, we hope. Stay well, take care, stay positive.

3/14/20: update regarding upcoming show postponements

Dear friends and fans,

After much discussion and thought, we have decided to err on the side of caution and postpone tonight’s show at The LoFoSmoHo. It is not a decision taken lightly – we love nothing more than rocking a nice full house with all you lovely people and sharing in that amazing live music energy. But we feel compelled to do our bit to help reduce risks for everyone. Stay healthy y’all! We will keep you posted (on all our various channels of communication) Grift happenings in the near future. A propos: The Sugarbush show next Saturday 3/21 has been postponed, as well, part of Sugarbush canceling all live music at the mountain. In the meantime, go download some independent music, (The Grift “Live at Mad River Glen” is an excellent choice, yes!) crank it up and boogie those blues away. See you all soon.

With gratitude,
Clint, Jeff, Peter and Eric

The Grift and their umbrella of other original music projects

Many people like to ask when and where they can see The Grift play live – great question! Did you know there’s a complete gigs list on the website? (There’s a Grift website?) Start there. Mark your calendars. Good. Now, you’ll notice that there are other live music happenings listed in addition to The Grift, as such. The Grift is like a big musical umbrella from which sunshine and daydreams and new projects constantly flow forth in rays of blindingly brilliant creativity… something like that. Or maybe the boys are all a little musically ADD and have a million* different projects going on simultaneously. (Did you know that Clint and Peter are working on an album with Allan Nicholls, who, fun fact, fronted JB & The Playboys as they ruled the Canadian airwaves in the late 60’s. See?) Did you know Jeff is working on a solo album? So… if you enjoy The Grift, chances are you will also enjoy DoJo (80’s Bluegrass) Honey Well (with Russ Lawton on drums), duo acoustic shows with Clint and Peter, Dr. Jack (luscious 3 part harmonies featuring Clint and Lauren “Rhonda Jean” Bierman), Treetop Mansion (ooh, brand new! sounds like The Beach Boys partying with Imagine Dragons, swimming in a sea of 90s rock somewhere near Laurel Canyon… A whole album of new original songs to be released in 2020!) and so on. You can find updates on all those projects… and more! on There. You are welcome. See you soon! Happy listening, and thanks for continuing to support independent music.

*not literally a million. but literally dozens, how about that?

We had a moment, as a band, basking in the post-show glow while packing up after the most recent Mad River Glen show: we realized just. how. fortunate we are to be able to play original music in a place as special as Mad River Glen for a room jam-packed with positive, beautiful, dancing, happy souls. We have always felt charged up and inspired and grateful for getting to play music for a living, and it continued to crystallize the other night. Thank you. Thanks for caring, for continuing to listen, and for bringing that positive energy into a collective groove. And here’s to many more years of that shared experience, and lots more music to come! Stay tuned for some recordings from that night, courtesy of the indomitable soundman/archivist Eric “Budward” Graham. Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts.

My Post-Traumatic Cruise Ship Cabaret!

Vivi and The Boroshenko Brothers

Vivi and The Boroshenko Brothers

Vivi Donovan and The Fleeing Boroshenko Brothers are back!  That’s right, folks, the Grift boys return to their stage acting careers in an updated, revised, still-funny-as-hell version of My Post-Traumatic Cruise Ship Cabaret! Starring the mesmerizing Vanessa Dunleavy as Vivi Donovan with The Grift as her Belarusian backing band.  Book and lyrics by the immensely talented Dana Yeaton, music by Clint, Dana and Peter.  We were particularly blessed this time around to have the amazing Guy Stroman from NYC (co-creator, Forever Plaid) directing the show – we are spending the week sequestered in tiny Rochester, VT getting everything dialed in, and you are in for a treat! The show is magnificent, quite frankly.  (are we biased? maybe.  but still.) Need more encouragement?  Jeronimus Boroshenko (played by Jeff) has lines this time!  Yup, it’s true.

Rochester Auditorium (at The Rochester School) Route 100, Rochester VT
